Polman Negeri Babel Students Are Taught to Wisely Handle Data Through the Bangka BPS GENSTAT Program
Students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel), particularly those from the Applied Undergraduate Program (Diploma IV), participated in the Statistics Awareness Generation (GENSTAT) event held by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bangka Regency at the Polman Babel Hall on Monday (October 27, 2025).
The event was attended by representatives from the Directors of Polman Babel, Subkhan, M.T., and Somawardi, M.T., along with the Acting Head of BPS Bangka Regency, Fahrudin, and BPS staff. The event was lively, with students eager to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of data in today's digital age.

In his remarks, Subkhan, M.T. "I conveyed that this activity is a crucial step in developing a young generation that is intelligent and critical in responding to information. The ability to read and process data is a crucial asset for students in various scientific fields. This will enable Polman Babel students to become not only users of information but also capable of analyzing data objectively and based on statistical facts," he said.
Furthermore, activities like GENSTAT are a strategic step in raising student awareness of the importance of data literacy and its use for rational decision-making.
"Students must become accustomed to thinking based on data. This way, the decisions and analyses they make can be more accurate and have a positive impact," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bangka Regency Statistics Agency (BPS), Fahrudin, conveyed the active involvement of Polman Babel students in the GENSTAT program. He considered this collaboration a concrete example of synergy between the educational sector and government institutions in improving statistical literacy among the younger generation.
"I am very grateful to Polman Babel for the support and facilities provided. Hopefully, this activity can raise awareness of the importance of data in everyday life," he said.

Furthermore, Wahyu, an employee of the Bangka Regency Statistics Agency (BPS), presented material on statistical literacy, emphasizing the importance of the ability to sort valuable information from irrelevant data, which is essential for evidence-based decision-making.
He also explained that open data access is key to encouraging transparency and innovation in various sectors. However, an understanding of privacy protection and personal data security also needs to be continuously monitored to prevent misuse of information.
"We are entering the era of the data revolution, where data volume continues to increase rapidly from various sources such as administration, digital transactions, sensors, and social media. Therefore, data interpretation skills are essential for the younger generation, especially students," he concluded.
