Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation of Interns: Polman Negeri Babel Visits PT Timah (Persero) Tbk and ULP PLN Pangkalpinang
The Internship Commission team from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) conducted a working visit to several companies in Pangkalpinang on Thursday (October 22, 2026). The visit aimed to monitor the implementation of student internships and evaluate the students' competencies, discipline, and professional ethics during their field work practice.
The team—led by Harwadi, M.Ed., Head of the Academic Support Unit for Career Development and Entrepreneurship, accompanied by Eko Sulistyo, M.T., Deputy Director III of Polman Babel, and the internship administration team—visited PT Timah (Persero) Tbk and PLN ULP Pangkalpinang.
At PT Timah, the Polman Babel team was welcomed by a representative from the Human Capital (HC) department, Ikmal Syarif. During the meeting, held in a conference room, the parties discussed the execution of the internship program, student placement, and the supervision of students while within the company environment.
"We strongly support higher education institutions in implementing internship programs," stated Ikmal. "It is essential that students are placed in roles aligned with their fields of study and competencies, ensuring that the internship activities meet the company's needs and adhere to established standard operating procedures (SOPs)."
He stated that students must be provided with guidance or a briefing before beginning their internship, as this goes beyond ensuring the alignment of their competencies.
"Aspects concerning safety and potential risks during the internship require careful attention and must be supported by supervision from mentors at the company," he explained.

Meanwhile, Doni, General Manager of PLN ULP Pangkalpinang, noted that the internship program for students from Polman Babel has been proceeding well. Based on his observations, there have been no issues regarding the students' ethics, discipline, or competence throughout their internship.
He further added that there has been a positive response toward the Polman Babel students, which opens up opportunities for future students to undertake internships at PLN ULP Pangkalpinang.
In response to this, Eko Sulistyo, M.T., Deputy Director III of Polman Babel, stated that the visit serves as an effort to strengthen communication and ties between the higher education institution and its partner companies. "Looking ahead, we aim to solidify this collaboration through a formal cooperation agreement (PKS), which will provide a clearer and more sustainable foundation for the internship program," he explained.
Echoing this sentiment, Harwadi, M.Ed., emphasized the importance of monitoring and evaluating students currently undergoing internships. "This allows the campus to track their progress and identify any areas that require improvement through further guidance and support," he noted.
Harwadi expressed his appreciation for the openness shown by both companies during direct discussions regarding the internship program. He highlighted that effective communication between the campus and the companies is essential for anticipating potential challenges and ensuring that students gain work experience that aligns with their specific areas of competence.
"Ultimately, we hope to further strengthen coordination with our partner companies so that the internship program remains well-directed, consistently monitored, and mutually beneficial for both the students and the partner organizations," he asserted.
