TRPM Lecturer from Polman Negeri Babel Shares Insights with SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat Students through a Community Service Program
Lecturers from the Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology study program at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) conducted a Community Service (PKM) program for students from SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat. The event took place on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) at the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Laboratory within the Polman Babel Design Building.
A total of 62 Grade XII students from the Welding and Fabrication (Lapalo) department of SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat attended, accompanied by their teachers. They received various presentations from the Polman Babel lecturer team as part of an initiative to introduce the higher education environment while enhancing the students' knowledge and skills.
The PKM activity involved a team of Polman Babel lecturers: Herwandi, Ph.D., Adhe Anggry, M.T., Ilham Nur Dimas Yahya, M.T., Shanty Dwi Krishnaningsih, M.Hum., Amril Reza, M.Sc., Idiar, M.T., and Muhammad Yunus, M.T.
The PKM team leader, Herwandi, Ph.D., stated, "This activity serves as an opportunity for students to get a closer look at the study programs under the Mechanical Engineering Department. We provide an overview of educational paths available after vocational high school (SMK), including the differences between Diploma III and Diploma IV levels, and offer insight into the role of English proficiency during studies at Polman Babel."
"In addition to gaining insights into college life, the students were introduced to basic Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills through the use of AutoCAD software, serving as an introduction to fundamental concepts related to the Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology study programs," he added.

He added that prior to the PKM (Community Partnership Program) activity, the team conducted surveys and communicated with SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat, noting the students' curiosity about the skills and knowledge they could acquire.
"We felt it was necessary to hold this activity directly at the Polman Babel campus to provide students with additional insights and help foster an interest in pursuing higher education," he explained.
Bahrul, S.S.T., a teacher from SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat, welcomed the initiative. He noted the value of the material presented by Polman Babel lecturers, which offered new experiences and perspectives to students accustomed to learning primarily within the school environment.
"Moreover, this adds a new dimension to the students' learning process and boosts their interest in higher education; since they already possess a foundation in engineering, continuing their studies at Polman Babel is a natural next step," he stated.
