Flocking to the Information Session, State Polytechnic of Bangka Belitung Students Gain Deeper Insight into Internship Mechanisms and Requirements

Harwadi, M.Ed., conducted an internship briefing for Applied Bachelor (D-IV) students at Polman Negeri Babel, covering requirements, procedures, and student readiness for internships at industrial companies, private sector organizations, and government agencies.

Students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) flocked to an information session regarding the Applied Bachelor (D-IV) internship program, held in the campus auditorium on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).

The 193 attending students represented the Applied Bachelor study programs in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology, and Software Engineering Technology. The session served as vital preparation for their upcoming internships at industrial firms, private sector organizations, or government agencies.

Harwadi, M.Ed., Head of the Academic Support Unit for Career Development and Entrepreneurship at Polman Babel, explained that students must understand the mechanism for proposing internship sites so they are familiar with the requirements and procedures established by the Internship Commission.

Harwadi noted that while there are several "Cluster I" companies recommended as internship sites, students must meet specific criteria to qualify: they must be active students with no outstanding administrative issues, hold a minimum GPA of 3.00 (from semesters 1 through 6), have no record of written warnings during their studies, have submitted their final project book, and have settled any outstanding compensation obligations before the internship begins.

" Do not worry about failing to secure an internship placement; as long as you are earnest and committed to completing the internship—even if you do not land a spot in 'Cluster I'—opportunities remain, because what matters most is the seriousness with which you approach the program," he emphasized.

Equally important, students must actively communicate with the Internship Committee team if they encounter difficulties during the application or placement process; any obstacles should be discussed immediately so that students understand both the potential solutions and the risks involved.

" Students need to take this seriously, especially since the internship is a key challenge in the final semester and a mandatory requirement for graduation," he stressed.

Furthermore, Harwadi reminded students who have already secured an internship placement to maintain proper conduct, professional ethics, and discipline, and to strictly adhere to all company rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs); failure to comply could result in dismissal from the internship and a failing grade (E), forcing them to retake the course," he added.

He further explained that internship violations do not merely affect the students themselves; they can also disadvantage parents who are counting on their children to complete their education on schedule," he stated.

Following the presentation, the session became increasingly interactive during the Q&A; students actively raised various questions regarding procedures, requirements, and potential challenges they might encounter during the internship," he noted.

Ultimately, he encouraged students not to hesitate to ask about anything unclear so that issues could be resolved early on—emphasizing that it is better to ask when unsure rather than waiting until a problem has already arisen to seek a solution," he concluded.
